Collector Tool: Adjusting Independent Study (IS) Staff Association
This guide walks users through how to collect students and adjust their assigned Independent Study (IS) teacher using the Collector Tool. It explains how to search for students, select them for collection, close out an existing IS teacher, assign a new one, and ensure correct date setup.

Navigate to the “Show Student List” Section

From the top menu, click Admin

Hover over Student Info

Click Show Student List
Once there:

Use the search filters to locate your students:
- Teacher of Record
- Grade
- Enrolled = Yes
- School Year

Click Search to display the student list
Select Students for Editing
Once the students are displayed, you can either:

Click the "Select All" button to select all students

Individually select the students by checking the boxes next to their names

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Collect Selected" button
Use the Collector Tool
After collecting students, follow these steps to open and use the Staff Association Collector:

Navigate to the IS Staff Association section in a student’s record

Scroll to the bottom and click the Collector button

A menu of collection actions will be displayed

Under Available collection actions on this page, you will see the dropdown options:

Edit most recent Staff Assignment record

Delete most recent staff association record
-
Create new staff assignment
-

Closing Out an Existing IS Teacher
To close out the current teacher:

In the Collector action dropdown, select Edit most recent Staff Assignment record

Enter an End Date in the Finish Date Section

If ending today, use today’s date
-

Click Preview to view a preview of the updates.

If the student has classes attached, the "End PLS Classes, Too" button will terminate the teacher's association with those classes.
Creating a New IS Teacher Assignment
To assign a new IS teacher:

Return to the Collector Tool

Choose Create new staff assignment from the dropdown

Select the new teacher from the Staff ID List

Enter a Start Date
-
After entering the information, make sure that if you ended the previous PLS classes with the old teacher, you also "start PLS classes" to grant the new teacher access to the class as the instructor.
📌 Best Practice:
If the previous teacher’s End Date is today, set the new teacher’s Start Date as tomorrow to avoid overlap.
Finalizing Changes
After completing edits and assignments:

✅ Confirm both assignments are listed

✅ Verify there is no overlap in dates
