Engagement Log Use and Functionality

This guide helps teachers use the Engagement Log to record Live Interaction and Synchronous Instruction.

Accessing the Engagement Log

  • Go to: Teachers > Engagement > Engagement Logs

  • You'll land on a filter panel where you can select:

    • Staff (auto-filled with the teacher’s name)

    • School Year

    • School Week

  • Click Generate Report to populate the engagement grid.


Required Permissions and Page Policies

  • Teachers must have access to the element:
    /ef/engagement_logs.php
    This is required for the Engagement Log menu to appear.

 

Optional Settings

  • Include Informational Enrollments

    • When set to "Yes", students in informational enrollment status will appear on the log.

    • Admin Path: Admin > Settings > Policies > PLS

  • Copy Weekly Engagement

    • This is a page policy under /ef/engagement_logs.php

    • Enables the “Copy From Other Week” button.

 


Weekly Engagement Grid
  • The grid includes:

    • Rows for each student

    • Columns for each weekday

    • Checkboxes for Live Interaction and Synchronous Instruction


Filling Out Daily Engagement

  • Select checkboxes for each day and student based on instruction type

  • You may check one or both (Live and Synchronous) for the same day


Quick Fill Tips

  • Click the ▼ icon above each day to bulk apply checkboxes for all students

  • Choose one or both instruction types in the dropdown


Copying from a Previous Week

  • Click the Copy From Other Week button at the top-right of the grid

  • Select the week you wish to replicate

  • The values will auto-fill and can be edited before saving


Color-Coded Day Indicators

  • Blue – Regular school day (can be logged)

  • Green – School holiday (do not log)

  • Red – Emergency day (do not log)

  • Gray – Not part of instructional week or weekend

These indicators help you quickly identify loggable days.


Saving and Syncing with the Student Activity Log

  • After entering your selections, scroll to the bottom and click Save Results

  • All entries sync directly to each student’s Activity Log

  • These logs are referenced when marking PLS Student Roster attendance
