Gradebook: Settings
Each school has default settings that are preset by School Pathways for grade book settings. These can be adjusted with administrator permissions. Each teacher’s course AND curriculum grade book has settings that are individually controlled.
Notes:
- The settings are controlled by the logged in user.
- Each user can only edit their settings. An admin logged in with their admin credentials can edit a teacher’s individual grade book settings but cannot copy those settings to other gradebooks for the teacher.
- Whether a classroom instructor (CMS) or personalized learning teacher (PLS), all functions are the same.

TAB 1 - Assignment Marks
- Assignment marks are used to calculate the overall grade for the class. Each mark is given a "Value" and a "Minimum"
- Value: How much that mark is worth. For example if I grant an "A" to an assignment, the grade will use 95% to calculate the overall class grade. "A+" would be 100%
- Minimum: Sets the lowest the mark will show for. For example, if I use percents to grade in my gradebook and give a 97% to an assignment, the A-F mark would equate to an "A" because the A+ ends at 98% ("A" goes from 94%-97%)
- The columns in yellow- these indicate what grading method the marks are allowed. If the course/class is set to A-F then if you grade in Percentages it will associate the correct mark on the report card that corresponds in the A-F allowed marks.
- Set a mark for "Is Missing" and decide whether an assignment given the "Is Missing" mark will count against the student or not. Leave the "Value" blank if missing work is NOT counted against the student. Add Value if it should calculate into the grade.
- Set a mark for "Excused"- some schools use "EX" and ensure the "Value" and "minimum" columns are blank. Allow this mark for all grading methods
- Other "Excused" marks we have seen: EX, /, -, E, X
- If you want to delete the entire grade scale and refresh to the school’s default settings, delete all marks using the Red X and then click Delete Grade Scales
- To save your changes, type in “this affects all computed grades” and SAVE ALL or SAVE & continue to make more grade book changes on other tabs
TAB 2 - Gradebook
Sort Order: Choose how the assignments are sorted in the gradebook
Sort Mode: Ascending or decending of assignments using the Sort Order as well.
Gradebook Mode: Show assignments Vertically in the Gradebook or Horizontally
Settings: Choose what you do/don't want to see in the gradebook
Hiding "Non-Evaluated" will prevent you from seeing your assignments that are ungraded.
Hide Items of Type (Both GB "Gradebook" and Portal)
Hiding Modules or Assignments will cause those to go away in both the gradebook and the portal. Hide with caution!
Tab 3 - Weighted Categories
Navigation: Gradebook > Cogwheel > Weighted Categories
Key: This is the 1-2 character Key that teachers will use in the gradebook>Category column to associate an assignment with a specific category.
Title: The title of the category
Suppress Lowest: set how many (if any) of the assignments associated with this category, you would not want to be included in the grade average
Extra Credit: Define a category for Extra Credit if desired and indicate it with this checkmark. The Percent column can read 0
Percent: define how much of the total grade each category contributes. Total must equal 100%
- You can have up to 10 Categories
- You cannot use the same letter for different groups in the same class
- You can copy these settings between gradebooks you are the primary instructor of by using the Copy Settings to link after saving
To Use Weighted Categories in your Gradebook:
- Using the Key you created, simplay add that Key into the Category Column for each assignment
- LCAssignment Summary: Visible by clicking the overall grade in the gradebook or from the PLS Roster > Quickview Grade
