Edgenuity: Admin Set Up/User Matching

This document outlines the necessary steps to enable bridging of Edgenuity courses that have been created outside of the SIS to allow pulling time on task, assignments, and grades.

Requirements

  • The school must have an active Edgenuity API account.  Without it, the PLS cannot communicate with Edgenuity.
  • Edgenuity policies should be set using the API credential information supplied by the school.
  • The following records must exist (loaded or created) in the SIS/PLS:
    • Teachers, Students, Classes

Steps

  1. Establish the External ID links for teacher and student records between the SIS and Edgenuity by using the Identity Matching Tool.  This allows the program to know directly which user in the SIS is the same user in Edgenuity.
    a. Navigate to the Edgenuity Integration Status page
    .
    b. Select “Identity Match - Staff” at the bottom of the page.
    1. Use the dropdown “Match in SIS” in the following page to confirm Staff identities between Edgenuity and the SIS.  Click Save when done.
    2. Go back to the status page and select “Identity Match - Students” and repeat the process for students.
  2. Link PLS classes to their respective Edgenuity class.  This process follows the same workflow used to link existing Google Classroom, Apex, and now Edgenuity courses.  Note that this step may be something that teachers should do, instead of our staff.
    1. From the Curriculum tab within a PLS Class Edit page, click the Edgenuity icon under “Import Bridged Curricula”
    2. All active courses for the student IN Edgenuity will be listed in a popup.

Click “Link Class” next to the appropriate class.
    3. The Class Curricula list will show “Edgenuity Externally-created course”, indicating the class has successfully been linked.

Differences for manually-linked courses

  • Since we cannot assume that an onboarding school uses “base courses” in Edgenuity, we cannot require that there is a corresponding base course that we can use as the class curricula (unlike a normally linked course that was created by the SIS).

As a result, all manually-linked Edgenuity courses use a generic Edgenuity curriculum (LC Course) called “Externally-created course”.
  • Because another SIS may have created the existing course in Edgenuity (and may be actively managing it) the bridge will not issue any updates to the course in Edgenuity if it was manually-linked.  We essentially restrict our operations to read-only so that we do not interfere with any other system.
