Engagement Calendar: Tracking Synchronous Instruction
The Engagement log will provide you with the level engagement a student has participated in on a daily basis. This information is being pulled in from the Synchronous Calendar (if you are using it), Daily Logs, and data received from your bridge.

Why: Why Use the Engagement Calendar?
The Engagement Calendar was created to address the need to track Synchronous Instruction for students and staff. It bridges the gap where synchronous instruction can be provided by teachers who may not be the primary teacher for a student (e.g., Counselors, Subject Matter Specialists).
Where: Where Does the Data Go?
Once data is saved from an event on the Engagement Calendar, it flows into:
- PLS Roster > Engagement Log: This allows the primary teacher (PLT, IS Staff Association, Oversight Teachers, EA) to see whether their students had synchronous instruction provided by another staff member.
- Activity Monitor: Controlled by a policy on the PLS Roster, this monitor allows primary teachers to see that their student had activity for that day.
When: When is the Best Time to Use the Engagement Calendar?
If students at your school receive synchronous instruction from staff other than their primary teacher, then you will benefit from using the Engagement Calendar. It helps track and document these instructional activities effectively.
How to Access and Use the Engagement Log
-
Click Roster: Navigate to the Roster section in your system.
-
Student Roster Page: The Student Roster Page will appear.
-
Click Mass Print Reports: Select the Mass Print Reports option.
-
Access Engagement Logs: Click the icon in the Learning Period row, under the Engagement Logs column.
-
Filter Options: You can filter by “Staff” and “School Work” using the dropdowns.
-
Generate Report: Click Generate Report.
-
Log Activities:
- Click under each Learning Period (LP) to mark the student’s engagement for that day (a blue check mark will appear).
- Click the box next to each activity the student participated in for the day.
- Click Save Results.
Alternatively, you can click on the arrow in the header next to each day and select the box for the activity you want to credit to "All" students.
Note: If you are using the School Pathways Synchronous Calendar, once attendance is taken, the Engagement Log will automatically show the boxes checked for Live Interaction and/or Synchronous Instruction, indicating that the student attended that session.
Enabling the "Copy Weekly Calendar" Feature
To activate the "Copy Weekly Calendar" feature in Engagement Logs:
-
Navigate to the Engagement Log:
- Go to Teachers > PLS/Student Roster > Mass Print Reports.
- Click the Engagement Log icon for the desired Learning Period (LP).
-
Enable the Feature:
- Click the Options Cog at the top-right.
- Select Page Policies and enable the Copy Weekly Calendar policy (
/ef/engagement_logs.php
). - Save your changes.
Once enabled, a Copy button will appear within the Engagement Logs, allowing users to copy values from one week to another.
What is Synchronous Instruction?
“Synchronous instruction” refers to classroom-style instruction or designated small group or one-on-one instruction delivered in person, or via internet or telephonic communications. It involves live, two-way communication between the teacher and pupil. This instruction is typically provided by a teacher of record for the pupil or a certificated employee of the local educational agency for course-based independent study.
Ways School Pathways Can Track Synchronous Instruction:

- Zoom Integration + Engagement Calendar
