Note: This manual assumes that all your elementary students are taught by teachers with
multi-subject credentials The only course code needed for reporting elementary classroom-based classes is the code 1000

Course Information

  • Active: This course is currently being used in the course catalog. Leave the box checked if the course is active
  • Local Course Code: A code that your school/district has chosen to use for this course. There cannot be more than one active course with the same Local Course code
  • Course Name: The name your school gives this course. These should be specific. You could have an Algebra 1A course and an Algebra 1B course and an A-g Algebra 1A course and an A-g
  • Algebra 1B course. These would all be separate courses Credits: How many weeks will the course typically last
    -Year-long: 36 weeks
    -Semester-long: 18 weeks
    -Trimester-long: 12 weeks
    -Quarter-long: 9 weeks

Course Aliases: What the course can be named. This is often a name chosen that is more
descriptive of the course. For courses using codes 1000 or grade level codes of 1001, 1002,
1003, etc., aliases are important

You can enter any alias the course might be called such as 

  • Language Arts,
  • Mathematics,
  • Science, 
  • Social Studies,
  • Art, 
  • Technology, 
  • Music, 
  • Physical Education,
  • Electives,
  • Foreign Language, 
  • Life Skills,
  • Health.

  • Even if the class is called Language Arts, you must enter Language Arts as an Alias for the school to use Aliases should be separated by commas or semicolons
  • Description: Give any optional information about this course
    NCLB Core Academic Course: Is this course taught by a highly qualified instructor (HQT)?
    Non Std Instructional Level: Is this course being taught at a level different from the standard
    course such as GATE?
  • Curriculum Category: What curriculum areas can be chosen for this course code? It may be all Minimum Number of Students: What is the minimum number of students allowed in this class.
    Only necessary if you will be using this course entry later for class scheduling
    State Unv. Requirements Met: Does the course meet A-G requirements
    Maximum Number of Students: What is the maximum number of students allowed in this class.
    Only necessary if you will be using this course entry later for class scheduling
  • Instructional Strategy: Choose if this class is being taught to meet special needs for certain groups of students, such as SPED, EL, or Home Hospital students
  • Independent Study: Is this course delivered via Independent Study
  • Educational Service Provided: are educational services provided through ELD or SDAIE for this course Language of Instruction: Is this course offered in a different language. This need only be chosen if Educational Services of ELD or SDAIE are provided
  • Distance Learning: is this course offered via distance learning
  • Transcript Category: What local transcript code does this course fall into
  • Technical Preparation Course: Is this course offered for technical preparation
